I started couponing the 2nd week of October 2009. Now that I've been tracking my savings, I'm totally excited about 2010!!!
In the 3 months I've been using coupons, I have saved our family $1308.07 off our grocery bill!!! Now that's only for a 1/4 of the year!!! If I keep up that pace, in 2010, I will save our family $5232.28!!! That's ALOT!!!
I'm hoping to increase our savings now that our stockpile has grown and I've learned alot more about couponing. My goal by the end of January is to knock down our grocery bill to $30 a week. We have a family of 5, so that's only $6 per person a week! I am also setting a goal to eat healthier (like we did while we had our personal trainer) and get the kids eating healthier!
With tomorrow being a whole new year, what are your goals? Write them down and post them on the fridge or in front of your desk...some place where you can see them always! That will make you more likely to stick to them.
I'm totally excited about couponing and saving money! I can't wait to compare December of 2010 with this month!!! I wonder how much bigger that number will be!!!
Get Ready for 2010!

Christmas is over. The gifts are unwrapped and bank account is drained of the Christmas gifts funds. There is not much need to shop in the coming month of January. It’s more of a time to regroup and come up with your strategies for the next 12 months.
The sequence of financial “events” (for lack of a better term) in our home consist of the following:
- January – a time to explore your financial goals and set it in writing. If you don’t make goals and don’t write them down, it’s incredibly too easy (take it from me) to get side tracked therefore making absolutely no progress in achieving the things you wanted to accomplish by year’s end.
- February – check out those clearance sales! This is the time that stores start to pull out those summer clothes and yes…bathing suits! It’s also a wonderful time to cash in on some HOT clearance deals to prepare for next winter.
- March and April – This is when we start looking out the windows and see the beauty of spring coming upon us! This is also when I start to get the hankerin’ to start getting my hands dirty in the mulch. This past year was incredibly unorthodox for me in the sense that I did not spend the amount of time working in the yard as I had in years past. This year, I plan on getting back to normal and getting the yard in tip top shape! This takes some money for mulch, flowers, etc, so plan for this!
- June, July and August – the kids are out of school, vacation season is in full swing as are fun outings that take some cash to make happen. If you are a vacationer, look for deals. I think that you will still be able to find some good deals in regards to travel and if not, a “staycation” is always a fun way to do things in your own area that you otherwise would not.
- August is also a time of BACK TO SCHOOL! We all know that if not planned properly, this can be a HUGE expense! I am betting though that if you are reading this and other blogs, you knew where to go for the cheap supplies to help soften the burden of sending the kids back to hit the books.
- October and November – for us these are months of again getting to decorate the yard with Halloween and / or fall decor. This is also a time of getting out to more fall festivals and as anyone that hits these types of events will know, the cost of these can add up rather quickly if you are not careful. Look for free events or events that offer lots to do for little out of pocket.
- November and December – There goes the bank account! The holiday shopping season has hit and really, do I need to say anything more? One way to soften the load is to pick up things throughout the year when you can get a great deal. Hold onto it until Christmas and make it a gift that is sure to make someone on your list happy!
There are going to be expenses (there always are) that pop up unexpectedly. There will be auto repairs (UGH!), medical bills, a home repair costs, etc that throw your numbers out of whack. Even the best of planners get sidetracked with these things.
Other events such as the loss of a job can really derail your best thought out intentions. It’s because of these things that we all need to sit down with a pen and paper (or computer!) and get to work. Put your plans, goals and budgets into writing as it may help you stay on track and can leave you feeling relieved at years end that YOU DID IT! You accomplished your goals!
I am wishing you luck with all you hope to accomplish in 2010!
Stock up on Wrapping Paper NOW!
One of the couponing blogs I read daily (www.couponingtodisney.com) brought up a great money saving and organizing tip! Wrapping paper! It's everywhere from Walmart to Lowes and Home Depot right now for 75% off and more!!! She says she's scored several rolls for around $.75 each! So why not be organized and think ahead and stock up while the prices are really low! Then you won't have that dreaded Christmas Eve trip to the store to get those presents from Santa wrapped! Heck, for that matter, find some that's not specifically Christmasy, like polka dots or stripes, and use those all year for birthday parties and such!!!
Here's the 2010 Coupon Schedule:

Well, I started out blogging about my organizing (www.theorganizingmaven.com) adventures, but it has turned into my couponing adventures, so I thought I should do a blog strictly for couponing and bargain finding!
All of my couponing posts have been transfered below from my other blog.
All of my couponing posts have been transfered below from my other blog.
So...WELCOME to
The Diaries of a Couponing Mommy!!!
The Diaries of a Couponing Mommy!!!
A little about me:
My name is Wende and I have always wondered how these people I saw on tv could buy $200 worth of groceries for $50. In October of 2009, my husband changed careers and I decided that part of my job as a stay at home mom was to save us as much money as I could on ANYTHING we buy! I do our budget and keep up with the house and kids, so why not make it a mission to spend as little as I can (and put more money in savings) on the things we need too?
Now, I've always been a bargain hunter on housewares, clothes and all sorts of other things we buy, but never groceries. I made it my mission to learn how to use coupons and use them to MY advantage! So with hours of reading blogs and looking at couponing sites, I started on my adventure. It didn't take long to get the hang of things and by the end of the first month, I had knocked our grocery budget from $150 every two weeks to $50 a week! My goal by January 2010 is to have it down to $30 a week!
I would love to teach my readers how to do this too! There are so many great deals out there and with just a few hours a week organizing your lists, you too can cut your grocery bill in half or more!
Please feel free to leave comments and links to your couponing deals and PLEASE subscribe to our feed!!!
I will be trying to post deals I find on the blogs here daily (well, with Christmas this week, that may not happen right away!) and posting how I am only spending $50 each week on our groceries!
Happy Reading!!!
Wende

some more great deals today!
well, this is the first week of grocery shopping where i wasn't stressed out about staying under my $50 a week budget! there were so many great deals again this week, but once i got to HEB, i found everything on my lists from the other stores for about the same prices, plus i decided there were a few things i didn't really need and that gave me more wiggle room to stock up on capri sun!!!
HEB had capri sun 10 packs on their 5/$5 sale!!! this is one item i have been dying to get a great coupon on or have a great sale on so that i could stock up. we use 3 a day for lunches at least 4 days a week, so that's 12 a week. and...that's if the kids don't get into them when at home!!! so i decided to take advantage of this sale and stocked up on 15 boxes!!! they were 5/$5 WITH a $10 purchase. i just happened to pick up enough stuff to divide into 3 different transactions. believe it or not...i actually did not use any coupons this trip!
all together i spent $48.82 and i got:
15 boxes of capri sun
a loaf of bread
a bag of pretzels
5 boxes of trash bags
a tray of chicken legs
a gallon of milk
2 frozen apple juices
a new notebook to keep my lists in
2 packs of pork chops
2 packs of sausage
and this week was a great money making week for walgreens!
i did 2 transactions:
#1
2 triaminic thin strips 2/$10
2 theraflu 2/$10
1 stay free $1.99
scrunci headbands $2
a drink $1
1 roll of wrapping paper $1.99
subtotal: $26.98
after coupons and rr's, my oop was $3.53!
got $5, $3, $2, $2 and $5 for spending more than $25 before coupons in rr's ($17 total)
then i went to another wags looking for all the stuff on my list for transaction #2, but they were out of 2 things, so i ended up with:
a charging station for all of our ipods (been wanting one!) $9.99
1 pack of stayfree $1.99
1 touch of grey for men (i'll use it on me!) $6.99
1 neutragena shave cream $4.99
4 candy cane pens for teacher's gift baskets $1
scrunci hair pins $2
MY SUNDAY PAPER FOR THE COUPONS! $1.75
subtotal: $26.96
after coupons and rr's $7.36 oop
got $2, $2, $7, $5, and $5 another one for spending over $25 before coupons ($21total!)
after rolling a few into transaction #2, i have $33 in rr's left to spend!!!
only a few more weeks and i'm going to be TRYING to knock my budget down to $30 a week for our family of 5. i'm thinking of doing january with $40 and then down to $30 in febuary. we'll see!!!
