my cabinet runeth over!

i have gained such a stockpile of toiletries in the last month and a half that i've been couponing, i've had to reorganize a linen closet to contain it all!

i started out putting all the things i would use in the bathrooms under my cabinet in the master bath.  but, with today's purchases, there was just no room!

we have a linen closet near the kid's bathroom in our playroom and it was full of dvds and games.  i have put the dvds in another closet for now and made myself my own "walgreens"!!!

it doesn't seem like much now that the shelves are half empty, but probably by January, it will be full!

i lined everything up like a store with like items together. shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, lotion, deodorants,  body wash, toothpaste and so on.  the basket has smaller things like toothbrushes, dental floss, and travel size (well, only some. i have another full basket in my suitcase full of those too!).

what a weekend!

wow! what a shopping weekend! we kept saying that we were NOT going shopping on black friday weekend, but both hubby and i found ourselves at many stores! he bought a completely new wardrobe at old navy (and he sooo needed it!!), the kids got clothes, i got a few new things and all of our christmas shopping is done!!!

i thought i'd share a few great scores from just walgreens and cvs i got this weekend:

this was at cvs:
shick quatro titanium razor 9.99 - $2q = 7.99
colgate total 2.88 - $.75
st ives body wash 3.99 - $1 = 2.99
sunday paper 1.75
2 gummy bears $.79 ea - $1 off 2 cvs candy (printed out of the magic coupon machine!!)
and i also got 2 rolls of cvs paper towels with another magic coupon from the machine.
my total this trip was $18.11 because i had no extra care bucks (ECB). but...i did get $13 worth at the end of my receipt!!!

Walgreens:

walgreens and cvs coordinated last week with the razors and refills! so i picked up a refill for the razor above 6.99
i also picked up a infusium 23 leave in conditioner, but returned it because it didn't generate the rr.
the toblerones were sitting in the wrong spot with a 2/$1.50 sticker, but they were really 2/$3.  i had enough coupons to get 4 free with that price, but i miscalculated and thought i could get 6 free. oh well!  so all in all, this trip cost me after the refund on the infusium...ZERO!!!

this was my sunday morning run to walgreens...
(i found out that mine restock on saturday afternoon, so all the sunday rr goodies are fully stocked!)
i was going to buy the prilosec at the dollar general with my coupons, but it worked out to the same price as the big box at wags AND i got a $5 rr back on that.  it was $24.99 - $3q= $21.99

then the nivea was a SCORE!!!
here's what i did...
i had bogo nivea lip care items coupons. i also had buy 3 lip care, get a lotion (that size bottle) free. so, i bought 6  lip care and got the 2 lotions free.  the lip care were on sale for $.99 also!!! so...for a total of $2.97, i got 6 lip glosses (reg over $3 each) and 2 HUGE bottles of lotion (over $7 ea)!!!
my total for this trip was $25.20 and i got a $5 rr making it like $20.20! that's LESS than the price of the prilosec alone (which i was going to buy oop anyway!)!

and it gets better!!! (today was a great freebie day!)
then i went to cvs and had 3 buy the gillette deoderant, get the body wash free coupons.  i also had a $1 off the deoderant coupon for each.
3 deoderants (4.49, 4.99, 4.99) - $3 (3 $1q's)
3 body washes (4.99 each) free
1  oral b zooth brush 2.49 - $1q = 1.49

i used $13 in ECB's and my total was...$.98!!!
AND i got back a $10, a $2 and a $4 (cvs coupon for one) ECB's!!!

that was a $15 money maker!!!

the $4 ECB coupon is in the big red holiday book near the front. it's a card on an insert.  if you spend $20, you get a $4 ECB.  that's $20 BEFORE coupons!!!
the magic coupon printer (scan your card when you go in a couple of times until is says no more coupons, check tomorrow) printed $2 off a $10cvs brand purchase, a $3 off a $15 cvs brand purchase and a save $1 off 2 boxes of cvs brand facial tissues.

i have talked to both walgreens beauty dept ladies and they make a small commission  on the sales they make at their register.  so if you shop at walgreens, be nice and check out there and they will be more willing to work with you and your coupons.  i know yesterday when i went in, i asked about the infusium. she didn't know if it would print a rr, so we tried and when it didn't, she happily returned it for me with no problems! both of them always comment on how good of deals i get!

i don't know what i'm gonna do for the rest of the week now! i scored all of my lists today! LOL!  i'm sure i'll find more!!!

Black Friday Survival Guide...

Here's another great Black Friday post from Frugal in Houston

Black Friday Survival Guide
Here are a few tips the good people at Vocal Pointt put together:

Isn’t it ironic that a holiday devoted to giving thanks for what we have is followed immediately by the biggest shopping day of the year? But it’s hard to deny that Black Friday brings a ton of deals—and in an economy like this, every little savings can add up. At the same time though, you don’t want to give up your sanity. To protect your peace of mind and your budget, here are some of the best Black Friday shopping tips we’ve come across.

Separate needs from wants. Before you even look at a flyer, sit down with a cup of coffee and list what family and friends could really use . Buying needs rather than wants saves money, minimizes waste, and (assuming you’re not just giving Jockey three-packs) appears even more thoughtful.

Search for a deal. Once you have your list and the commitment to stick to it, start looking for the sales. You can do it the old-fashioned way with a newspaper and store flyers, or you can visit one of these sites: BlackFriday.info, Black-Friday.net, bfads.net.

Make sure it really is a deal. Just because the store says it’s a “door-buster” doesn’t mean it is. Compare its Black Friday deal with other retailers’ prices. The easiest and most comprehensive way to do this is on comparison-shopping sites such as pricegrabber.com, shopping.yahoo.com, and nextag.com.

Sweeten the deal. Three options here: 1) Check coupon sites such as dealcatcher.com or retailmenot.com; 2) Search for rebates on manufacturer sites, and; 3) Become a new customer (many stores give additional discounts to first-time online buyers or if you sign up for their credit cards).

Buy early. Check the retailer’s website to see if it allows Thursday or even Wednesday purchases at Black Friday prices. Or, if store policy allows, buy the item at regular price early in the week, then return it on Friday for an instant refund of the difference.

Hire a sitter. If there’s no option other than getting in line at the store the night before, hire a neighborhood teen to camp out for you. Even subtracting the sitting fee you’ll pay, you may still come out ahead.

Shop as a team. If you must go into a store, try not to do it alone. Have your hubby stand in line while you get what you need. Or, if your phone isn’t web-enabled, have him man the home computer so he can quickly search and compare unadvertised specials that you call him about.

Try to price-match. If you get shut out of the item you wanted, don’t give up. Take the store’s advertisement to a competitor with a price-match policy.

Buy ’em all gift cards. If this sounds like more hassle than fun, gift cards may be your salvation. We like the ones that can be used anywhere (as opposed to at specific stores). And avoid those that either depreciate over time or carry hidden fees. With a gift card, every day is Black Friday.

Watch out for that shopping cart!

here's a great email about getting organized for black friday sales from Take Control Organizing!1052434_shopping
The Day After Thanksgiving!  What a big day!  Black Friday!  Do you attempt to take on the crowds?  Do you get up at 4am to wait in line for the best deal ever?
I have before, however this year I am taking a break!  There is nothing so important to me this year to get up in the wee hours of the morning to stand in line.  I would rather sleep in and drink a nice Hot Peppermint Mocha! This is my plan for the day after Thanksgiving and probably a turkey sandwich for lunch!
However, many of you will attempt the crowds and will get up early….  And no matter what, we all have shopping to do for the holidays…
Here are Ten great tips to help you SAVE TIME and MONEY!
1.  Make a list of everyone you need to buy for – Family, Friends, Co-Workers, Neighbors, etc.  As you buy the gift, check them off of the list.
2.  Set a budget and stick to it!  Pay in cash, not credit card.  So set your budget realistically… What can you really afford and stick to it.  The holidays should not be about feeling guilty after you made the purchase or going into debt.
3.  Keep the gifts simple.  Giving a gift during the holiday season is about sharing your love with others, telling them you appreciate them.  It doesn’t have to cost anything.  If you have kids, set aside a day where you make art pictures for family, and if you have a few bucks to spare, frame the picture. If you scrapbook or make cards as a hobby, set aside some time to scrapbook a page for someone or a mini book with supplies you already have. Make a set of cards as a gift.  Make a card and tell that person what they mean to you.
4.  Think about buying one gift for one family. Instead of buying 4 individual gifts, buy a board game for the family.  Or if you have a couple you are buying for, instead of two gifts, buy one gift they both can use – a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant or a night at the movies.
5.  Consider drawing names with your family this year.  Everyone is on a tight budget, people may find relief in only having to buy one nice gift rather than having to buy for several people.  Keep it simple.
6.  Bake your gift! People love getting homemade baked items during this time of the year.  Buy a few decorative plastic plates or baggies and double your recipe and pass out your baked goods with a nice little note wishing them a Happy Holiday!
689551_christmas_cookies
7.  If you are buying gifts from a store, make sure to understand their return policy and make sure to add the gift receipt to the gift.  Stores are tightening up on their policies this year, and you don’t want to be out of luck!  (Keep all of your Christmas receipts in one place for reference later. Plus this keeps you on track for your budget!)
8.  Along with making sure you get a gift receipt, make sure it was ran up correctly.  Store clerks are busy this time of year and mistakes happen.
9.  If you don’t want to mix with the crowds this season, buy online.  There are some great deals online with reasonable shipping rates.  This may be easier if you need to ship a gift anyway!
10.  For the hard to buy- consider a gift card, however make sure the company is solid and not going out of business anytime soon, and you may want to find out if there is an expiration date, and make sure the receiver is aware of the store policies.
Happy Holidays!  Happy Shopping!  Happy Organizing!

get your turkey organizing on!

It's Time to Thaw!

(thanks's to who said nothing in life is free!!!)

This is your friendly reminder that it is time to put your Turkey in the fridge to thaw for Thanksgiving.
When thawing a turkey in the refrigerator, there are several variables to take into account:
  • Plan ahead: allow approximately 24 hours for every 5 pounds in a refrigerator set at 40 °F.

Refrigerator Thawing Times

(Whole turkey)
  • 8 to 12 pounds..........1 to 2 days
  • 12 to 16 pounds..........2 to 3 days
  • 16 to 20 pounds..........3 to 4 days
  • 20 to 24 pounds..........4 to 5 days

today's walgreen's trip

i have discovered that sunday around lunch time is a GREAT time to hit walgreens!  they had everything in stock that i was looking for!

i got 2 triaminic thin strips 2/$5 - (2) $1.50 off - (2) $2 off wag q (from the nov coupon book i think) making it $3 for both of them!!! and i got a $5 rr back on those!

then i got the shick razors $6.99 - $2 off= $4.99 and got back a $3 rr.

the coffee mate creamers were bogo at $2.49 and i had (2) $1 off printables making them $.49 FOR TWO!!!

the comet cleansers were 2/$1 with an ad coupon

the ricola cough drops were $.99 with an ad coupon and i had a $.50 off from the diabetes book found by the pharmacy making them $.49!

The 2 gillette shaving creams were FREE from thr rr's from last week! (remember the buy one get a coupon for a free one last week???)

then the colgate was $.79!!! i had a coupon, but i was trying to get enough fillers to match up the number of coupons and rr's i had.  i was thinking it would be a small one when i looked at it in the ad, but it was a FULL size tube!

then i needed a few more fillers, so i got the kids each a Christmas activity book 3/$1 with ad coupon and we each got a candy cane pen! they were 4/$1 with an ad coupon too!

so all in all, my total was $12.76 after coupons. i had $12 in rr's so my total was $.76 for all of this!!!
my receipt says my total savings were $41.87!!!

be sure to check out the expiration dates on your rr's and coupons.  if i wouldn't have looked this morning, i would have had a $10 rr expire tomorrow and one of my $2 off q's was expiring today! that's $12 i would have lost!!! so check your dates and keep track of them!  just another part of coupon organizing!

also, here's a great post about walgreen's register rewards from a thrifty mom:
  • One thing to remember about Walgreens RR is you can not use a ”chap stick RR” to pay for another chap stick and have another RR print.  BUT you can use a  “toothpaste” RR to pay for chap stick and have another RR print.
  • Also remember that Walgreens has a coupon item ratio rule, you can only use as many coupons as you have items.  They count RR as coupons.   So if  I was only buying 4 items ( all of which had manufacture coupons which meant my item coupon ratio was already 4 to 4) I wanted to pay with a RR I would need to ad a filler item something cheap like a pencil.  This would then make my coupon ration 5 ( 4 manufacturer coupons and 1 register reward) and my item ratio 5.  I then could pay with my coupons and RR with no problem. An instore coupon does NOT count as a coupon in this ratio….just as a sale price.
  • Also remember that only one RR per product will print per transaction.  For example If wanted to buy 3 bottles of Aussie shampoo.  In order to have 2 RR print for each one I had to buy them in 3 transactions.  My store is happy to let me go thru the line more than once ……but some store will limit you.
  • You can not pay for sales tax with a RR

wow! i haven't been on in a while!  i've been busy filling orders for my other site and haven't had time to blog!!!

here's my latest conquest!

kroger was having (i think it ended today) great sale on cereal AGAIN!  we are so stocked up on cereal now, i probably shouldn't buy any more, but when it's free or close to it, i can't resist!

kroger gave you a $4 instant rebate (took $4 off your order) when you bought 4 of the participating items.  i bought:
4 boxes of cheerios $2.50ea and i used (2) $1 off 2- 4x$2.50= $10 - $2q's makes them $8 ($2 each box) AND got $4 off at the register, so they were $1 ea!!!

3 boxes of cookie crisp $2.50ea and i used a $1/3  3x $2.50= $7.50 - $1q = $6.50 (2.17 ea box)
and
1 more box of cheerios $2.50 - $55q = $1.95
$1.95+6.50 = 8.45 - $4 off again at the register making it $4.45 for four more boxes!!($1.11 a box)

then the yogo's were part of that same deal, but you could only do 2 deals in one transaction, so i did 2 transactions.
they were also $2.50 a box and i had  (4) $.50 off coupons that double making them $1 off. so that made them $1.50 each, $6 total - $4 at the register= $2!!! that's $.50 a box!!!

another good one was the adolphus rice!  they were 10/$10 and i had $ .75 q's!  that made them $.25 each!!!
the pancake mix was $.45ea and the meds were being clearanced (that's what i went in for because i have a kiddo with a fever today)!  the "tylenol" chewable (kroger brand) was $.89!!! and the jr one's were $1.12!!!

my first transaction was $22.20 with $20.46 in savings
and the second one was $6.51 with $14.28 in savings!!!  not bad for running in to grab some fever meds!

all the q's i used today were ones from the paper except the yogo's.  those were printables here.

if my little buddy feels good enough tomorrow, i will run to target to try the nivea lip and lotion deal!  (it's about half way down that page)

not bad for an hour of running around!

organizing your stockpile

well, with all the couponing i've done lately, there's an extreme need over here to get my stockpile organized!  with 15 boxes of cereal and 50 rolls of toilet paper, you HAVE to be organized, or you won't know what you have, what you are out of or where it all is!!!

i'm lucky because i have a pretty large pantry.  i do wish it was a walk in pantry, but it's got shelves all the way up to the 9 ft ceiling, so i have lots of storage room!

i keep over stock up there. cereal, chex mix, juice boxes and so on...

then i use these white baskets for loose items. chip packs, granola bars and so on. i have several of these in there on the lower shelves for the kids to reach. my kids seem to think that if the basket is full, they have to eat everyone of them, so i only unload 1 or 2 boxes of items at a time.

i got lots of tuna this past month, so when i was at the store, i noticed the display boxes.  i bought 10 at a time, so i just stacked them in the box and the cashier just put the whole thing in my bag. it's great for storing those tuna packets!!!

i also stack all my cans, like items together with the labels facing out. think grocery store here! that way i can see what i have and when we are running low.

here's my "snack" basket for the kids. one is filled up with large packs like pretzels and goldfish and the other one has granola bars and fruit snack packs in it.  they are within easy reach for the kids when they get home from school!

i stack all my toilet paper under the downstairs bathroom counter.  we don't keep anything in there (except for the downstairs cleaner), so i FILLED it up!!!  i also gave the kids 2 four packs for their bath and the master has some stacked in it's cabinets too.

i need to stock up on paper towels and paper goods this month, but under a cabinet in my kitchen that's in a corner and is REALLY deep, i'm storing paper goods.  otherwise, it's too deep for anything and we've never put stuff in there before!  i have baggies, paper towels, trash bags, and my glade candles in there right now!

i'm getting a good supply of laundry soap now too.  i also have a 5 gallon bucket of homemade detergent on top of my washer that has lasted us for more than 6 mo's!  my laundry room only has one shelf above the washer/dryer, so i'm staking stuff.  i hope to add more shelves soon!

and last but not least, the bathroom supplies!  i LOVE baskets, so i have one in there and all my other items lined up.  it's under my master bath cabinet since that's the most used bathroom in our house.  it's getting pretty full, so i am planning on cleaning out the linen closet in our playroom.  it only has kiddo games in it right now, so i will find another place to store those and fill it full of toiletries and paper goods!

if you get creative, you'll find tons of room even in a tiny house!  under bed storage boxes are great for toilet paper!  do you use every shelf in all your closets???  who says groceries only have to be stored in the kitchen???   look around and i'll bet you'll find tons of room!!!

Thursday, November 5

other grocery trip today...

here was my food town trip.  i love this store because it's super cheap!!! all this for...$36.74!!!

i will break this one down since they had INCREDIBLE deals today!
6 tomato soups 3/$1 -$1/2q= FREE!!!
folgers coffee $1.99 - $.25q = $1.74
6 packs of large ziti noodles 3/$1 = $2
2 kraft ranch dressings (natural kind) $.44x2= $.88
4 libby canned corn $.66 x 4= $2.64 - $1q= $1.64
cottonelle 4 pack toilet paper $.99 - FREE w/ $10 purchase
2 ajax dish soap $.77 x 2 = $1.54
GREAT DEAL surf laundry deterg. $3.44 - $3q (found in sunday's parade) = $.99x 2 = 1.98
3 chicken o's nacho flavored nuggets $.88x 3= 2.64
4 lbs of bananas $.25 a lb = $1
cornbread mix 4/$1
chocolate muffin mix 5/$1
80 corn tortillas $.99
22ct bag of chips $4.99 - $1q= $3.99 each (i ALMOST bought these at kroger earlier for $6.40each!)
4 dozen eggs $.66 each!
and the chicken legs!!! $.69 a lb!!! each pack was a little over $2!!!  i bought 3!

you can't beat that!!!

according to my receipt, i saved $42.97 with sale prices, coupons and store coupons!!!

so here's what i've decided for my overage on my $50 a week budget.  if i combine this week with next, i had $100 to spend.  i've spent a total of $93.57 today.  we had $15.25 left from oct, so that brings it to $78.32.  so technically i have $21.68 left for next week.  with as much stuff as i bought between these two stores, that should only be used on milk and fruit!!!  i am planning on going to target tomorrow for some more cereal and apples, so i'll deduct that too!  my stockpile is growing!!! i'm hoping by xmas, i will be down to only getting things we are out of and perishables each week!!!  we'll see!!!  i'm also hoping, by posting this for the world to see, i will stay on track!!! it's easy to just spend and spend when there's such great deals out there! but, there is a budget to stick to and that is the challenge!

Nov. grocery budget...

Here's my first grocery trip for Nov. They all are having such GREAT deals this week and a good friend (thanks kim!) gave me tons of yogurt coupons, so i am going over my $50 this week (i had $15.25 left over from oct). BUT...if i get enough great deals this week, maybe, just maybe, i won't go again next week! probably not going to happen since i'm sure i'll find some more great deals next week too!

Kroger was still having their buy 10 qualifying items, get $5 off your total. This week i paid attention and got $20 off my total!!! with my kroger card, i got a whaaaaapppiiinnnnggg $60 off right off the bat!!!

this is what all i got...(i'm not going to break it down this time though)

When looking at my receipt, ALMOST every item has a "kroger savings" under it.  That is NOT the coupons or kroger sale price. i'm not sure how that gets triggered, but it's cool!!!  i also started noticing that whatever i load on my kroger card (look on their site under coupons and you can load some directly to your card and not have to carry those with you!) is being counted as a "store coupon" so it can be stacked with my other coupons.  here's an example: betty crocker fruit snacks $1.99, kroger savings -$.70, scuts (shortcuts loadable coupon) -$.40 and i used a $.40 off coupon that was doubled to $.80.  they were also on the 10 qualifying items deal, so they actually came to $1.49 originally - $70 - $.40 - $.80 = neg $.41!!!  so they were FREE with a 41 cent overage used on other stuff!!!

my grand total BEFORE coupons and kroger card was $150.00 and i saved $93.17!!!  so i paid for all those groceries...$58.83!!!

just with my kroger card alone, i saved $64.71!
